Power Semis Third-Wave Hike: Taiwan Makers to Raise Non-Contract Prices 10%–15% from October, AI Rack Power Scaling to 1MW Reshapes Demand

2026-08-20

According to Economic Daily News, Securities Times and Semi Industry Observer reporting on August 18, Chinese-Taiwan power-semiconductor manufacturers are preparing a third round of price increases for 2026, planning to raise prices on non-contract spot products by 10%–15% starting this October. The move follows Infineon's two completed hikes this year and STMicroelectronics' notice of a further increase effective August 23. Supply-chain data shows the average price of power semiconductors in 1H 2026 has already risen 15%–20% year-over-year, with lead times on high-power MOSFETs and large-area TVS diodes stretching to 52 weeks. Beneficiary Taiwan makers include Taiwan Semiconductor (5425), Diotec, Panjit and Niko-Sem; Panjit's July revenue reached NT$1.448 billion, up 4.2% month-on-month and 31% year-over-year—a new monthly high—with order visibility extending into mid-2027 and a 20%–30% capacity expansion already underway.

The driver behind this round is not the legacy up-cycle; it is a structural demand-side reset triggered by AI data-center power architectures. AI rack power is rapidly scaling from 120kW to 600kW and toward 1MW, exposing the limits of the conventional 48V/54V power-distribution architecture and making 800 VDC the definitive direction for next-generation compute infrastructure. Infineon released a 24kW SiC battery-backup reference design for 800V AI data centers in June, while Taiwan Semiconductor has begun shipping 650V TVS diodes in volume and is pushing toward 1000V products. International vendors have revised their AI data-center power-semiconductor market forecast from US 12𝑏𝑖𝑙𝑙𝑖𝑜𝑛𝑢𝑝𝑤𝑎𝑟𝑑𝑡𝑜𝑈𝑆 50 billion, and the bill-of-materials value of power components in a single AI rack is expected to climb from approximately US 15,000𝑡𝑜𝑑𝑎𝑦𝑡𝑜𝑈𝑆 115,000 by 2030.

For the domestic electronic components supply chain, this third-wave hike opens a critical window for Chinese power-semi vendors to convert price tailwinds into share gains and design-in wins. Correspondingly, Winsemi Semiconductor, JoulWatt, and Bosemi Semiconductor stand to capture incremental demand across automotive-grade and industrial-grade PMICs, DC-DC and AC-DC converters, gate drivers, and TVS/ESD portfolios used in AI-server power stages, on-board chargers, battery-management systems, industrial PLCs, and servo drives. With lead times at Infineon, ST, and Nexperia lengthening and spot-market bargaining leverage for buyers effectively gone, the ability of downstream solution providers and distributors to execute alternative sourcing qualification, long-term inventory locking, and cross-fab coordination will become the decisive factor in capturing the next leg of power-semi structural growth.
